Psalm 107:1 says to Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.

Thanksgiving Day offers us the opportunity to focus our thoughts on God’s amazing grace that has been extended to ourselves, our families, our communities, and our church, The Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Athens, Georgia.

Today many of us will gather around tables with families, friends, and new acquaintances for a meal. A feast where the food will be plentiful. A feast the conversation will be jolly. A feast where the astrosphere will be of fun, hope and joy. A feast where memories will be made, and traditions will be kept.

Jesus likens our salvation to being brought to a great feast. He has told us to taste and see that the Lord is good.

Salvation with Jesus brings us into a rich experience of joy and delight in the Lord. In our salvation Jesus wants us to move beyond knowing things about God theoretically.

Jesus wants us to taste the sweetness of God’s character, so that we know that we know that God is merciful, that God sees us, that God knows us, and that God wants us to depend on that Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot cure.

The table is set the feast is ready.

So, as we pause for a time of thanksgiving let us not forget our faith.

As we pause for a time of family and friends let us not forget our faith.

As we pause to pass the cranberry souse, get some corn bread, or another slice of turkey let us not forget our faith.

Let us not forget our faith as we to shop until we drop, travel over the river through and the woods on crowded highways, cramped planes, packed buses, and trains.

Let us not forget our faith, when that guest at the table gets on our last nerve.

Let us not forget our faith when the holiday season stresses us out with too many parties, too many gifts to give and too many memories of loved ones that we have lost.

Let us not forget our faith.

Because without faith, there is no salvation, there is no feast there is no Thanksgiving.
