In the new movie the Woman King, Academy Award Winner Viola Davis plays the leader of a group of all female warriors charged with defending her tribe. Based on a true story these warriors fight with skills and fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen.

Davis’s character trains the next generation of recruits to fight “the good fight of faith” against a threat from foreign slave traders’ intent on destroying their way of life.

Acts 16:1-3 tells how Paul meets Timothy he is impressed by the young man making him part of his traveling team. Together, they teach the Gospel telling the life changing way of Jesus to Jews and Gentiles.

In 1st Timothy 6:12, Paul nearing the end of his life and ministry emphasizes the eternal rewards that awaited Timothy if he continued to “fight the good fight of faith.”

The threat to our salvation is as real as the threat posed by the slave traders.

Fighting the good fight of faith is a call to action to do more than simply rest on our hid parts because we are a “Christian”. Fighting the good fight of faith means we actively work our faith; we actively defend our faith and we actively be our faith.

This week funeral services for the Queen were heled. As the world reflects on her life of service, I hope and pray that when our time comes the God that we service will be pleased that we fought the good fight of faith.
