Prayer, Football, Prayer

I wake this morning to the news that I prayed about before going to bed that Damar Hamlin, a 24-year-old safety in his second season with the Buffalo Bills, would make it through the night.

Over this New Year’s holiday weekend, I watched a ton of football, and I enjoyed it all. However, in that enjoyment I often forget that in nearly every game I watch a young man will be hurt some minor, many major.

For some the collective effects of all that hitting in practice and in games will manifest itself later in life when they are no longer useful for us as players, but much more useful as husbands, fathers and productive members of society.

This morning as I reflect on Damar Hamlin and what we saw last night, I intend to watch football in a mode of prayer.

Praying for my team and the opposing team in the week leading up to the game for a safe week of practice.

·    Praying as part of my pregame warmup as I sit in my easy chair to watch.

·    Praying during the game not for my team to win but for the health of all involved.

·    Praying after the game for injuries known and unknown as these young men leave the gridiron to go back home to wives and family.

·    Prayer, Football, Prayer – as we continue to pray for Damar Hamlin.
